I’ve been obsessing with my Starlink Mini internet antenna for the past few months, taking it all over South and North America for fast and portable Internet. In my latest video below, you’ll see how I’ve used a few accessories to turn a Tesla into a an always-on and in-motion Wi-Fi hotpot for travel though remote areas.
I have been so impressed how well the Starlink Mini works through the glass roof the the car, and also equally impressed how reliable the connection is while in motion at highway speeds. The Starlink satellite constellation is so dense by now, that optimal orientation or angle is not strictly necessary for basic connectivity. I’ve tested the internet connection speed while in motion at highway speeds, and it was well over 200 Mbps and ~25 ms latency. Incredible!
Of course, you will likely have an even better experience (with less packet loss) when the antenna is stationary and optimally aligned. But for music streaming and messaging, this is more than enough.

You can obviously turn any vehicle into a hotspot with a 12v power cable, but the advantage of using a Tesla is that the glass roof keeps the antenna discreet and out of sight. And also, Teslas give the user the option to keep the accessory power ports turned ON while the vehicle is off. There are so many possible use cases for this, from camping to very remote road tripping.
During my trip, I went inside of a cafe to get some work done. While inside the cafe, my devices were connected to the Tesla parked outside. That’s pretty cool, in my opinion.
