The Optiq is one of the more compact electric SUV’s from Cadillac’s growing EV lineup. Introduced for the 2025 model year, it has been praised for impressive range and comfort.

The first model year 2025 Optiq vehicles features CCS1/J1772 charging ports, located on the driver’s side front fender. However, MY 2026+ Optiqs have now switched to a single NACS port for charging both at home and on the road.

The Optiq and the performance oriented Optiq-V both share the same 85 kWh (usable) battery capacity. The vehicle is capable of charging at 48 amps (11 kW) on AC, but an optional package can equip 80 amp (19 kW) AC charging hardware. 80 amp chargers are less common and may require electrical panel upgrades, but if supported, can cut down charging times substantially.

Below, we’re rounded up our favorite home EV charging products suitable for all versions of the Cadillac Optiq.

ChargePoint Home Flex (50 Amp)

ChargePoint Home Flex for Cadillac Optiq

You have likely seen ChargePoint DC fast chargers in parking lots over the last several years. They operate a sizeable DC fast charging network in the US and Canada. ChargePoint also sells a very good home EV charger called the Home Flex.

It helps tuck the cable out of the way when not in use. The Home Flex can charge at up to 50 amps, when hardwired to your cuircuit breaker.

The 48-amp capable unit comes with a 24-foot long cord, and a choice between a NACS/Tesla connector on the regular TWC, or one with a built-in J1772 adapter on the Universal Tesla Wall Connector.

Many Cadillac/GM EV owners use the Tesla phone app to activate Tesla Supercharger stations, and the same Tesla app is used for monitoring and managing your home Wall Connector. We also really like the side facing cord holster, which makes cord management very easy when not in use.

Frequently Asked Questions about charging the Cadillac Optiq

Can I charge at a Tesla Supercharger?

Yes, in September 2024, GM pushed a software update that allowed most of their EVs access Tesla Supercharger stations. But note that not all Supercharger stations are technically compatible with non-Teslas, many older stations (Version 2) are still exclusive to Tesla cars. Check the Tesla app or your in-vehicle navigation to find a compatible location.

Also, MY 2026+ Optiqs have a native NACS port for charging, so you can plug into the Supercharger stall directly. But 2025 vehicles still have a CCS port for charging, so a NACS-to-CCS adapter will be required.

How fast can the Optiq charge?

  • Up to 150 kW peak power at DC fast charging stations. But only at stations capable of delivering 500 amps. Most DC chargers labelled as 150 kW are limited to 350 amps, so it would only deliver around 100 kW. You would actually benefit plugging into a charger that is labelled as 350 kW, because those have higher amperage limits. This is due to the Optiq’s relatively low voltage drivetrain battery, like on the Chevy Equinox EV. But in practical terms, it may only add a few extra minutes on a trip. The Optiq charges well enough for long road trips.
  • On level 2 home charging stations, the base Optiq can charge at 48 amps, or 11 kW. This is plenty fast enough for an overnight charging of the 85 kWh battery.
The Optiq can be specced with an optional 80 amp (19 kW) charging hardware. But this might be overkill for an SUV with an 85 kWh battery, unless you drive a lot and require mid-day top ups.
An 80 amp charging station is useful for large trucks with huge batteries that could not fully charge overnight at 48 amps.

Should I charge the Optiq to 100%?

GM hasn’t provided clear guidance. But because it is an NMC battery chemistry, an 80% daily limit is reasonable, with 100% reserved for longer trips. However, GM’s Ultium packs usually have a decently sized buffer reserved, so occasionally charging high should not cause too much harm. Just avoid having your car sit for prolonged periods fully charged or fully depleted.

Where is the charging port located?

The Optiq has the EV charging port located on the driver’s side front fender area. This is a convinient location for charging at home. But it may be a little awkward at older Version 3 Supercharger stations, where the cord is short. You may need to park at an angle, or even double park for the cord to reach without stretching. This should not be a problem in the long term, as more Supercharger stations are upgraded to newer Version 4 dispensers with much longer cords.

Should I hardwire my home EV charger or use a NEMA 14-50 outlet?

Professional installation by a licensed electrician is recommended for a hardwired setup, and also for installing a NEMA 14-50 outlet if you don’t already have one. Specific minimum gauge wiring and, and screw torque settings are required for safe operation. But if you already have access to a NEMA 14-50 outlet, then DIY installation is fast and easy.

Keep in mind that NEMA 14-50 outlets need to be connected to 50 amp circuit breakers, but are limited to 40 amps (80%) for continuous load. That means outlet type EV chargers are good for 40 amp (9 kW) charging. To charge at 48 or 80 amps, a dedicated circuit with a hardwired professional installation is required.
